Description: Mural Paintings of Thailand Series

The Mural Paintings of Thailand Series is a very beautiful series of large sized, 8ΒΌ x 11, hard cover books showing and explaining the best of the temple mural paintings in Thailand. The murals have been photographed in glorious colour, section by section, and next to these colour plates the story being shown is explained in both Thai and English. These books are both collectors pieces and well done academic works.

Wat Khian is a small Buddhist temple belonging to the Mahanikaya Sect. It is located in Ang Thong Province on the flood plains on the bank of the Noi river. The temple, surrounded by villages and a canal, had been abandoned for a long time. Afterwards, when people settled here and a community was formed, the temple became its centre.

The mural paintings at Wat Khian were created during the late Ayuttaya period. made by the local artists, these splendid paintings are remarkably sophisticated. The stories depicted are also distinctive and unique. That is, in addition to conventional episodes from the life of the Lord Buddha, the fable of Manohra is also depicted on the south wall.
